Is Shakespeare A Materialist Or Classist?

To believe or not to believe that William Shakespeare wrote all of his pieces of work? There are many pieces of evidence and arguments as to why Shakespeare is not credible of his work, but also as to why Shakespeare was more than capable of his writing, and why opposing arguments are redundantly classist. Personally, evidence pointing to Shakespeare as the actual writer of his work is a whole lot more believable because a common man like Shakespeare was more than capable of creating such famous writings. One of the most popular arguments against Shakespeare’s credibility is that Shakespeare only had a grammar school education (Mabillard), and should therefore not have the capability to write literary classics. However, this is just a classist and redundant argument. According to Vox, Shakespeare attended a grammar school that was “heavy on Greek, Latin, and foreign languages” (Grady) which would explain why his writings would be written in foreign languages even with him just having a grammar school education. The theory states that the Earl of Oxford, Edward de Vere, was the person who actually wrote these poems and plays (Stevenson). However, that is not true because many of Shakespeare’s works were published after the death of de Vere. Many can argue that the death of de Vere is insignificant since all other writings could have been written while de Vere was still alive and kept hidden for the future. Nonetheless, Pennsylvania State University claims that the notorious play was inspired by a voyage to the Americas named “The Tempest” and was produced after de Vere’s death; the voyage occurred in the year 1610 and de Vere died in 1604
