My client is called James Beresford. I have changed his names for confidentiality reasons. The life stage he is in is adolescence. He is 17 years old and lives in Southampton with his mum three brothers and one sister. He suffers from three health issues, which have day to day effects on him. The three-health issue are autism, which is extremely bad, also depression and he has noise sensitivity. Issue 1: My client has a mental condition, which is autism. Autism is known as a “developmental disability” –one that affects approximately one in hundred people. Many children with autism have anomalies in some of the brain structures. Malformation in these areas can lead to symptoms of autism. It is a spectrum condition, which means its, can differ a lot from person to person. It is a lifelong developmental disability that affects how a person communicates with, and relates to, other people. It also affects how they make sense of the world around them. The type of noise sensitivity is hypersensitive hearing. James Beresford was sound sensitive at birth but it is only specific to certain frequencies heard at loud levels. He can tolerate some sound at normal or even loud volumes but some frequencies are difficult to tolerate. The hypersensitive hearing is linked to his autism because it is mostly found it autistic children. When James Beresford has a problem when he is in town and there are too many people speaking to him, or screaming and shouting around him, he will start to twitch and walk off. He does this a when he is angry and when he can’t be on his own. When he is doing something like washing up he listens to music on the highest level of the song.
