I am standing here, in front of you, the leaders who navigate the ship - the State of Israel, motivating by the harsh feelings after 4 months of terror attacks and the longstanding tensions between Israel and the Arabs, especially the Arabs who living among us. In our small country, coexist two nations, Jewish Arab which characterized by cultural gap. A cultural gap which only increasing by hostility and incitement. As I see this picture, one can begin to bridge the cultural gaps by learning each nation language. Once we exposed to the language, we are exposed to culture, to the press and public opinion. The openness of the Jews in Arab culture is much lower than openness of the Arabs in Jewish culture.
We can change it, we must change it. We need to deepen our knowledge in the Arab language. Arabic language studies in the education system in Israel starting in the seventh grade and in most of the cases ends in ninth grade. Many young people do not find interest (לא מוצאים עניים)in Arabic language and its culture. We must educate our children to openness, to coexist peacefully, Arabs with Jews and Jews with Arab. I believe that the next generation should learn Arabic as a compulsory subject. We must communicate with our environment to live in peace, especially if Arab countries surrounding us.
It may seems like I am a naïve person but I am not. I don’t think that at the moment we deepen and teach Arab language in grade school, the tension will stop. It won't stop. But, if we show the Arab world that we are hold out our hand to the Arabs by studying the language, opening to the Arab culture, we can reach reconciliation between nations and agreements. We could live co-exist peacefully in Israel. Winston Churchill once said:"The farther backward you can look the farther forward you will see." I believe we can proof his words – we must reduce the cultural gaps accumulated over the years in order to look forward
