Detective Report
On the morning of June 6th, 2021, police received a phone call from New York City’s Sanitation Department. Multiple reports of a gross smell had led them to investigate the basement of Dumpster #124 which was located directly next to the elevator of floor B3 in “Jim’s Parking Garage”. When the sanitation department attempted to pinpoint the location of the smell, they uncovered the horrific scene of a lifeless man with multiple stab wounds. Police were immediately notified and from there the Murder Unit was contacted and placed in charge of this case.
The man, Mark Smith was immediately identified through his driver's license which was fortunately not stolen. Police noted something weird here though, the man’s wallet and money were all stolen, yet the man’s identification was still kept there. Almost as if the killer wanted the police to find it. The officers secured the crime scene and began their investigation. They discovered a silver machete at the scene which was poorly hidden in a ragged, torn bloody vest, and believe it was used in the attack. After combing through the elevator’s security camera footage, they discover a man in a dark hoodie and jeans pulling a lifeless body out of his Honda Odyssey. The suspect then speeds away.

This was not a passion or self-defense crime. This was a cold, calculated, and premeditated act in which the defendant planned and carried out the victim's murder.
