J.K. Rowling was one of the most renowned authors ever. She struggled through school and had to move many times as a child. As time passed, she married, but it perished with a foul divorce. However, she did not let these disheartening events restrict her from her dream of being a writer. J. K. Rowling was an outstanding writer who, despite struggling through a rough childhood and early life, became one of the world's most eminent novelists. J.K. Rowling had a rough childhood. On July 31, 1965, J.K. Rowling was born in Chipping Sodbury. She was given the name Joanne Rowling in this small town near Bristol, England (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Rowling had a life changing success. She was suddenly inspired to write Harry Potter on a train trip in 1990 at King’s Cross station, a prominent location in her books (Authors and Artists for Young Adults). She used to be an unemployed single mother before she wrote her books (Encyclopedia of World Biography), but now, her books have made her the second richest woman in the United Kingdom, behind the queen (Major Authors and Illustrators for Children and Young Adults). In the year 1997, she published her first book under the title Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. In 1998, it was later published in America with the title Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (Contemporary Authors Online). She used the initials J.K. so there would not be a bias against a female author by young, male readers. (Encyclopedia of World Biography). Scholastic paid $100,000 for the rights to her first book. This is the most ever for a book by a children's author (Major Authors and Illustrators for Children and Young Adults). Warner Brothers purchased the rights to her first book for a hefty sum of over one million dollars (Newsmakers). After all of her success, she married Dr. Neil Murray in 2001 (Newsmakers), and they had two children, David and Mackenzie. (Major Authors and Illustrators for Children and Young Adults).
