Development of Social Bonds & Attachments The theory and study of bonds, attachments, and relationships throughout one’s lifespan is referred to as attachment theory. According to Dr. John Bowlby, the founder of attachment theory, In the film attachment theory across generations, “attachment is an intricate part of human nature from the cradle to the grave. Prior to Dr. Bowlby research, psychologist had never put much emphasis on the effects of early childhood attachments and bonds. Bowlby, focused his research on the impact of real life experience throughout the entire life course. He based his theory on three major influences, the first being Ethology, where he immediately noticed the unique relationships and two way bonds that a mother and child have. Second, Psychoanalysis, where he studied the emotional impact of relationships over the course of a person’s lifespan. In many homes both parents work and in some cases, they work to jobs just to scrape by. Meanwhile the children go to school and then to daycare where the only social relationships (people they can create bonds with) are their teacher and childcare professional.
