In John D Mayer and Peter Salovey’s, “What is emotional intelligence?” emotional intelligence is described as “the ability to perceive emotions, to access and generate emotions so as to assist thought, to understand emotions and emotional knowledge, and to reflectively regulate emotions so as to promote emotional and intellectual growth” Mayer, J.D. (1997) “In the best of stories, it is actually characterization that moves the story along, because a compelling character in a difficult situation creates his or her own plot." (Bernardo). Our performers understand that they need to be able to portray believable emotions in order to portray the correct emotion to the audience. By completely being able to know their characters characterizations they will be able to create characters that the audience will want to follow.
Emotional intelligence is required in any performer because one needs to be able to be in touch with their emotions so that they are able to access any emotions at any given moment. In our term project, …show more content…

(2003) it states that we are used to familiar expressions because they are signals of different emotions. Facial expressions are the briefest of emotional signals. The performers need to be aware of the different facial expressions as they will send specific messages to our audience and emotional relevance is all about the audience being able to relate to the emotional journey of the character. Emotional relevance can be described in many ways. For a start it is the way in which the audience relates to your narrative on an emotional level. It is the emotional journey you take your audience on because they are able to relate to the different levels of emotions throughout because of the way they find it relevant as most people have experienced the same kind of emotions our characters
