John F. Kennedy was a U.S. president for almost three years before he was assassinated, but from the little time that he was our president he made an impact that changed history and many lives forever. Even though his death was over 50 years ago, his legacy of leadership and optimism is still remembered to this day in time. John Fredrick Kennedy was born on May 29, 1917 to Joseph and Rose Kennedy in Brookline, Massachusetts. Kennedy was in office as President, the first thing he did was look over the Peace Corps. in 1961, which sent people to countries that were not economically advanced at the time. (history.com) During that same year he also made several speeches about civil rights for African Americans due to the fact he supported racial integration and wanted a change. In October of 1962, John F. Kennedy negotiated with the leader of the Soviet Union, Nikita Khrushchev, to demolish nuclear weaponry in Cuba. On June 10th, 1963, John F. Kennedy signed the Equal Pay Act which allowed the abolishment of unfair pay between man and woman, which was a major accomplishment towards women’s rights. On November 22, 1963, at the age of 46, John F. Kennedy was unfortunately assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas, Texas while campaigning for the re-election year, he died immediately with his wife Jacqueline by his side. John F. Kennedy also had a goal of sending astronauts to the Moon, this was known as Project Apollo. Although the Moon landing occurred after the assassination of John F. Kennedy, he made a speech in 1961 saying that he believed that America could be the first country to ever step foot on the Moon.
