Leadership Essay “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.” John Quincy Adams, our sixth president, defined a leader in the quote above. The qualifications for a leader Adams explained are valid reasons, and I believe these to be true. The purpose of this essay is to define what a good leader is and give examples of leaders. The ultimate goal should be the success of others. A good leader doesn’t care about personal gain or accolades and achievements they can get, but the well being of their followers. A good leader is one who, not only speaks with words, but with actions as well. People do not respect a person who is not true to their word and doesn’t feel an obligation to change and only substantial change will happen with action. As, in some wrestling enthusiasts eyes, the best wrestling coach and wrestler in the history of America or maybe even wrestling history, Dan Gable says, “There's always ways of motivating yourself to higher levels. Write about it, dream about it. But after that, turn it into action. Don't just dream.” He says such to motivate people to work for what they want. An athlete, in this case, will not reach the top of the podium just wishing for wins. They have to work for it. Words can only do so much. Lead by action. President Roosevelt’s coined phrase, “Speak softly and carry a big stick.” explains it all. Show people what to do, don’t tell them how to do
