On 03/02/2017, I, Chad Agnew, was working as a patrol officer for the Wichita State University Police Department, in Wichita, Sedgwick County, Kansas. At approximately 1551 hours I was in Human Resources when I heard other officers get dispatched to Jardine Hall Room 201 for a panic alarm. I notified dispatch that I would be enroute since Human Resources in close to Jardine Hall. When I was approaching Jardine, I observed a male wearing a hat with shoulder length curly hair standing outside the front doors on the east side of Jardine. Your typical college is supposed to be a Safe, cautious environment where Students follow the rules and handbook, but Tyler Junior College is not the typical college. Every College has their fair shares of problems but it seems that Tyler junior college will not try to keep the rule breaking under control or enforce new rules. A problem that we as students of Huston- Tillotson University see on a daily basis would be how our furnishings reflect us academic students. In order to improve our campus in ways that can benefit our learning environment in a positive way we would like to focus on how our presentation produces productivity. The ultimate goal we want to achieve is implementing growth within our campus by providing a much more modern look to our furniture in our high activity areas of campus to produce academic involvement. We plan to attack this problem by employing multiple methods such as raising awareness by surveying, observing, and also researching the benefits new furnishings would give.
My least favorite activity in class was Station Eleven research proposal. I had some trouble doing it in the beginning because I wasn’t specific enough when I chose my topic. But with some guidance from professor Warren, I was able to make it more specific the second time I submit it. Overall I liked the class format and pace. I thought it was manageable and not stressful at all, which was perfect for me.
For a student to obtain success as they have come to know, they believe conformity is of the utmost importance. This then plays into the desire to fit in. In the case of The Citadel, because they must conform to certain personality changes, this sacrifice is often toxic. Developed in part due to the four-class system, first-year student who are referred to as “knobs” take the brute force of the ritualistic hazing. This group of students are often tortured relentlessly until they either quit, conform, or wait it out until the first year is over.

Lastly, I did my own observation while at Temple University. I went to the center of campus, a place called Polett Walk and I went at the busiest time, lunch time. This is when everybody is walking around between classes. I found a place to sit and I observed for about an hour.

Many of their principles align with my teaching philosophy as well as my classroom management preferences. For example, on the very first day of school, my students and I will work together to develop a behavior contract that will contain the rules/norms of our classroom. We will brainstorm ideas together on an anchor chart, and then I will consolidate these responses into cohesive phrases. Once the “published” copy of the behavior contract has been presented to the students, and no changes need to be made, each student will sign the contract, indicating that they plan to abide by these rules every day, and if they make a poor choice, they accept the consequences that are to follow. The consequences for the broken rules/norms will also be discussed as a class.
