Jordan Peterson Ian O’Doherty said “Psychologist Jordan Peterson is either the world’s most important or dangerous academic- depending on you opinion”. Jordan Peterson is a Canadian psychologist who is hated and loved by many for his controversial ideas on social constructs, religion, and political correctness. His controversy and movement have lead him to be considered as an important figure for modern academia. Jordan Peterson was an important and influential figure in history that had a positive impact on the world because he supported and increased the free flow of ideas. He also worked for the New Democratic Party (NDP) throughout his teenage years, but grew disenchanted with the party due to what he saw as a preponderance of "the intellectual, tweed-wearing middle-class socialist" who "didn't like the poor; they just hated the rich"(Wikipedia). Peterson’s first major influence was his school librarian Sandy Notley who introduced him to politics and started him on work for the NDP that took up much of his teenage years. He also gained a lot of influence from his P.H.D. supervisor and lifelong research partner Robert O. Pihl who has helped Jordan in many of his psychological studies and works. He also began to admire philosophers such as Carl Jung and Friedrich Nietzsche who shaped his ideas about individualism and self-responsibility. Dr.Peterson began his career as an associate professor and researcher at Harvard University. After Harvard he moved to Toronto to become a Professor at the University of Toronto and opened a practice where he said he “I’ve seen 20 people a week for 20 years” (Blatchford) , this is quite an impressive workload considering he was also working on research and his books on top of teaching and his clinical practice.
