Preparing and training for a mission have always been essential when a unit gears up for a conflict. However, sometimes failures teach more valuable lessons that even the best preparation and training can provide. This paper will explore the Vietnam battlefield in late 1966 and discuss the failures when fighting in unfamiliar territory, inability to use means of communication and loss of command and control. The 196th Light Infantry Brigade (LIB) is one case study that demonstrates several factors contributing to the overall outcome of their mission in Vietnam.
George Saunders’ speech to the graduating Syracuse class of 2013 emphasized the message of being kind to one another. He made a point of his own personal experience saying that one thing he regrets is not being kinder to a young girl who was picked on for her habits. This story leads into Saunders’ message about being more mindful of others and their feelings. Saunders’ message to the students who are just about to entire the “real world” is to introduce kindness and compassion. He believed that while mankind is born with a sense of selfishness and the notion the we individually are the center of the universe kindness can change that.
Standing up for a classmate or even participating in a school fundraiser, could be examples of showing this kind hearted side, no matter if you are recognized or rewarded for accomplishing it. No matter who you are, no matter, what you look like or what you do, you can make a difference. Frederick Douglass is a significant and appreciable figure also. Douglass was a former American slave who managed to escape his life of restriction to attain freedom in a free state. This was an onerous thing to do but all it took was a little hope and perseverance.
So constantly being kind and showing those kind emotions can show your character and build a reputation that you can uphold. In his quote, Elie Wiesel stated “Even on the edge of the abyss, it is possible to dream exalted dreams of compassion.” I believe he talked about
Living in a modern world many people get well educated and are making good changes in the world. But are we forgetting something in our busy society? George Saunders talks about the importance of kindness in his commencement address. Saunders is an American writer and university professor who made the commencement address at Syracuse University in New York state in may 2013. This essay will focus on the style of Saunders’ language and on the values he advocates in his speech.
This feeling encourages people to help someone in need which is not only good for them, but it helps yourself as well. You can make a difference for someone and allow them to improve and build a stronger life. Helping connects us together just like how guilt can make you want to repair your bond. This allows a person to create a stronger and happier society for the people and bring them closer together. Guilt also has the ability to stop one from doing wrong against someone or something.
My entire life has changed due to my kindness. Therefore, should I no longer be kind? Why offer my assistance to others if the outcome is penalization? These questions torment my mind; do I acknowledge what's happening around me, or should I just drive by? All I wanted to do was help people, and now, all I do is suffer.
It is important because it shows we care. Every little act of kindness, no matter how
Though sometimes people don’t do the right thing, people are generous towards each other, even during troubling times. People take care of each other and help each other when they need it. When things aren’t good, people try to have an optimistic attitude. People are generous towards each other, even during hard times.
Expanding kindness to all things is the trickiest part. But it can be done. Saunders mentions the most respectable names in history as an example of kindness like Gandhi, Mother Teresa, and Shakespeare. Kindness is what saves each of us. Each of us can recall the random act of kindness that was done to each of us.
When you help someone in any way then you too are also growing a piece of self. “The evil methods which men use to get ahead in our century clearly show that their aims cannot be worth much” (Michel De Montage pg. 96) there is historical evidence that proves the foreign to an individual causes chaos. We don’t react well to the unknown. When you help somebody in any form you no longer become isolated towards that person and get to know at least part of his or her story.
I have felt that I have experienced impact of kindness in the Fairview community I live in, by working with the autistic kids in the elementary school. I have not only felt like I have shown kindness to these kids but in return, I have seen these kids show kindness back. I have had an amazing experience these past three years working with the autistic kids in the elementary school. For me showing kindness is putting yourself in someone else 's shoes and putting aside your own selfish desires. Kindness does not have to be giving or doing something for someone else, but kindness can be as “little” as showing interest and investing time in another 's life.
ALTRUISM: It is true because U comes before I Helping others in need or wanting to help someone in need, consciously or subconsciously, is something that society experience in everyday’s life. It can be opening a door for others, giving up seats in public transports or helping a blind man cross the road. It is common for humans to help others and expect something in return (Thomas Hobbes, 1651). However, in some instances, helping may not promise back a reward or benefits. It is plausible for one to help someone who is related to them genetically (e.g. father and son or sister and brother) but it is mystifying for one to help a complete stranger compassionately.
In Montour, accomplishing good deeds are a regular occurrence. However, the good samaritans only perform such deeds until they get the recognition for it. After the attention and recognition come to an end so does their kindness. In my opinion, recognition shouldn't be the driving cause for a good deed or kind gesture.
We go through our everyday lives performing random acts of kindness but sometimes we fail to notice them. Over the last five days, I have documented some of the acts of kindness that I already did but failed to reflect on them after. Some of the things that I noticed was the reactions people had after being nice to them or asking them how their day was going. Their reactions were mostly positive, but sometimes they looked at me kind of weird and gave me very brief answers. Not all of my acts of kindness were towards others, I added some personal acts of kindness because they helped me relax and decompress.
