The historical books of the Bible did not only talk about the history of the time and what was happening, but these books also showed many qualities of God. Three books in particular showed me the most about God: Joshua, Judges, and 1st Samuel. The book of Joshua shows many characteristics about God, especially His never-ending power. The one example of this is the story where the sun stood still. In Joshua 10: 1-15, Joshua said “sun, stand still over Gibeon, and you, moon, over the Valley of Aijalon” (NIV). Then, the Bible said that the sun and moon stood still for about a full day. Now, I know that Joshua himself did not make the sun stand still, but it was thanks to God. God loves his people and knew that they were in battle and needed extra daylight to win the battle. The Lord was fighting for Israel! By making the sun and moon stand still, God allowed Joshua and his army to win the battle! All over the Old Testament, we see hints and clues that lead up to Jesus dying for our sins on the cross. Joshua’s name is one of these clues. When translated, the Greek name Jesus is equivalent to the Hebrew name Joshua. Their names are the exact same when translated through different languages. On our note guide, it says “All that Israel received in the Promised Land came through the leadership of Joshua and whatever we receive from God, we receive through Jesus Christ, our Joshua”. Since their names are the same, it was if God was foreshadowing Jesus and showing us His plans. Not only does it show that God has a plan for Jesus, but it lets me know that He has a plan for me. No matter how crazy my life seems or how bad of days I have, I know in my heart that God has a plan for my life. He will use me to glorify His name and to show His
