Journal Entry:
During this observation I watched how the teacher used ELA and understanding checks with her students. The teacher asked students to find one person whose birthday it was in the same month as theirs, then together go pick up a task card and follow the direction on it until she told them to rotate. One of the first checks I saw her perform was when she went up to different groups of students and asked the students to show on their hands how many objects they needed. “That’s right its 2 cones and yes 4 balls. Total piece of equipment?” They responded 6 and in return she says “6 that right great math skills.” Throughout the lesson she constantly asked direct understanding question that mostly revolved around language or some type of math. I also observed the teacher encouraging students to take turns reading to support their performance of reading in a fun way but also at the same time allowed students be physically active. By the teacher using a writing station helped the student’s use critical thinking and comprehension with a combination of their writing level to answer her questions or perform a specific task. Each task card also being written helped the students to read in depth the written instruction about physical education content. In my opinion task cards activities could be used on any level that could not only connect to common core but could be used as an assessment for all learners. At a higher level they could be used to ask students to link the task performed at each stations with a specific component of fitness and have the students explain the task and the fitness component verbally or in a written response. The teacher could create and assessment rubric from level 1-3 to allow students to demonstrate their proficiency on the topic. Level one could be students who are below average, 2 students who are average, and 3 students who are above average to demonstrate their
