A Supreme Courts nominee’s job is to be confirmed. To do so, they must navigate a Congressional hearing. These confirmation hearings are less about the nominee 's jurisprudence/case history and more about turning the candidate into a two-dimensional character that is composed of political sound bites. Then, it is the applicant’s responsibility to perform the textbook responses artfully to appease their audience. When Michael Dorf wrote, “What is Sonia Sotomayor’s Judicial Philosophy” he brought the public’s attention to the “Confirmation Ground Rules,” Here, he spoke about the choreographed hearing process.
While Justice Thomas is famous for his silence during oral argument, this does not mean that his lack of input in cases makes the other justices wary of where he may stand in issues because of his known conservative reputation. What drives his conservative stance on the Supreme Court is his “originalist” philosophy which calls for interpreting the Constitution as the Founding Fathers primary intents were. As Ralph Rossum states “During his years on the Court, Thomas has pursued an original general meaning approach to constitutional interpretation; he has been unswayed by claims of precedent, by the gradual buildup of interpretations that, to his mind, come to distort the original meaning of the constitutional provision in question, leading to muddled decisions and contradictory conclusions” meaning that Thomas determines cases based on strict interpretation of the Constitution and does not think that neither precedent or stare decisis have any weight on recent cases. The only document that has a true significant precedent is the Constitution itself. His judicial philosophy surely makes him an enigma to
Historian Henry Shapiro has argued that depictions of Appalachian mountaineers reveal more about those participating in the creation of those depictions than it does about those being characterized. In no way is this truer than in discussions of Appalachian whiteness. Throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, novelists, social scientists, and social reformers of various stripes used the racial identity of the mountaineer to advance a host of social and political agendas. Nevertheless, present-day scholars have been hesitant to interrogate race in the Appalachian context. When studies have focused on race they have often served to reify the image of Appalachia as a predominantly white region inhabited by a people of pure Scotch-Irish
The focus of the article surrounded Antonin Scalia’s decisions and actions throughout his justice of the Supreme Court days as well as his life leading up to that point. Finally in 1986 he was nominated by Reagan to the supreme court and won unanimously. Scalia was said to be one of the most passionate and outspoken justices of the Supreme Court.

They made me hopeful because they show that there are good people willing to help others in need even in the worst of times. I think I can follow in their footsteps and try to help people in need and stop the persecution of groups of
EARL WARREN 2 Earl Warren: Warren was one of the greatest Supreme Court Chief Justice of the decade due to his loyalty to the US government and his truth to the people. Confirmation Reflection Confirmation, a film that details the 1991 Senate Judiciary Committee hearings that occurred after President H. W. Bush nominated Clarence Thomas to fill the associate justice role, recently vacated Thurgood Marshall. Marshall was the first African-American justice to sit on the Supreme Court and is known as well for being the lead counsel of the NAACP in Brown v. Board of Education, which intended to desegregate public schools. Before the hearing began, Senator Edward Kennedy’s aide Ricki Seidman, chief investigator of all Supreme Court justices, followed up with Anita Hill, professor of law at University of Oklahoma, after an FBI interview that accused Thomas of sexually harassing Anita when he was her boss at the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission ten years earlier. In addition to the allegations set forth by Hill, Thomas faced opposition from civil rights activists because they thought his conservative stances would reverse the civil rights gains of Thurgood Marshall.
I learned how to adapt to the individual needs of students to provide them the best education. Like students with a communication disorder, many of my students would shy away from activities or tasks because of obstacles. Through these experiences, I watched my students gain the confidence to participate in activities and excel in academics to become successful individuals. As a future Speech Language Pathologist, many qualities that I possess can be improved by furthering my education.
When making decisions people often refer to their own knowledge or to their own motivations to determine what is the correct decision for them to make. Supreme Court justices and the average United States citizen would make different decisions from each other because their own motivations and knowledge. Supreme Court justices are exposed to many different sources of information so they tend to favor their own knowledge over their motivations. The role that the Supreme Court plays in the United States system of government is to check, if necessary, the actions of the President and Congress.
My misfortune in math later helped me realize that I needed to change my outlook on school. Instead of dismissing a subject just because I was not good at it, I would rather try and identify what I was doing wrong, and work to fix it. Taking the the ACT engage test helped me realize what my academic strengths and weaknesses are, and how I can use this knowledge to capitalize these strengths so I can be more successful in college than I was in highschool.
Hence, it is not necessary that quiet people would automatically adopt a passive communication style, I feel that it is dependent on the kind of environment one is being placed in which contributes greatly to how they interact and engage with others. Although selfless actions and complying to others are seen as a positive behaviour, however, it is extremely crucial to identify the situation an individual is dealing with. If the situation is something as minuscule as dinner plans, being compliant is acceptable. However, when it comes to group discussions or in a workplace and an individual has a burning desire to express their thoughts and opinions but resort to being compliant, I feel that it is extremely
“How to Say Nothing in 500 Words” Paul Roberts essay, “How to Say Nothing in 500 Words,” describes my papers to a T. I always ramble on with filler content that dulls my papers, makes you want to fall asleep, and frankly I was quite content with this. I always had a passing grade in English, so why bother changing your style. Roberts has shown me more ways to make my papers better in 14 pages, than I had learned in all of my high school classes. Roberts also refers to calling a fool a fool, I find this to be very good advice. This is often easy for me to do when talking to someone in person.
At the time I was working at Metropolitan Ministries’ outreach department. I was questioning changing my major based on Media Writing. I found most people that I worked with had degrees in communication-related fields. This inspired me to change my
I learned new concepts such as positive purchases, and the positivity of local purchases on our economy. I was able to self-reflect a great deal, as I became aware that I could be making much more positive decisions in terms of my food choices, but I was not. I realized that yes, as a student I did live a busy life which did not leave time to search for these positive food choices, but there are many options that did not require any more effort than what I was currently putting in. I learned about the vegan options on campus, as well as the local produce food shops around Hamilton. Not to add, I learned that there were certain programs that would just deliver to my door, and all of these would still fit within my student budget.
