Hip hop has had an immense effect on popular culture. Popular culture is defined as expressions of shared experiences that are much more fundamental to our society, including the values and beliefs that have shaped it, for example, integrity, community, compassion, courage, sacrifice, respect, hard work, and justice. Some would argue that pop culture, as of recently has been shaped by hip hop. Shawn Carter, popularly known as Jay-Z, is a hip hop icon who has transcended music itself through his private person and musical legacy. The fact that his wife is an ultra successful icon herself has added to the his image.

This music has been criticized for many things such as its explicit language and its emphasis on drugs and violence. However, there is a side of rap with positive aspects including a focus on social change. Known for his poetic and thought-provoking lyrics, American rapper and songwriter Kendrick Lamar is an example of this side of hip-hop.
So many people around the world want to be like him, they try and learn from him. Not only do people want to make music similar to him, but they want to dress like him and be cool like him. Over his years of people popular he has basically created a signature style, Timberlands have always been his thing. Looking at the big picture, Drake is a big positive when it comes to him in our society. He is close to, if not the most popular person in our country.

Then the author uses Fox News as an example to show that Williams and Guilfoyle are both right, but they did not touch on the political side; since most of their arguments are about West as a singer and a successful businessman.

Not only has he managed to build a successful career as a musician, but he has also managed to create a brand around himself that extends beyond the music industry and into fashion and other cultural spheres. Despite his controversial past, Tyler has become one of the most influential artists of modern society, and his empire continues to grow and evolve.

Of the numerous artists who can be considered when studying this idea of a "cultural icon," there is no better representative than Frank Ocean. Frank Ocean is an African-American queer singer who pushes boundaries of hip-hop music by being open about his sexuality and social injustice. Ocean recently dropped his second album titled “Blonde” and his first song on his album, ‘Nikes’, is a perfect example of how different parts of pop culture has influenced songwriting and music.
When Kanye West dropped his controversial song “Famous”, the entire world praised Kanye West and accompanied him with the role in Taylor Swift’s fame. Taylor Swift completely disagreed with the lyricism in West’s song and attributed his cruel words to the apparent misogyny in the music industry. Swift later goes on in her Grammy Awards acceptance speech claiming, “Women in this industry will always be undermined of their success but if you stay focused on your end goal, someday you will get there, and it will be the greatest feeling in the world.”
Hip hop critics believe that hip hop is a violent subculture and supports crime and violence, but research has shown that there is no direct correlation between the two. One hip-hop artist that goes against this stereotype is Kanye Omari West. Mr. West lyrics allows the listener to understand that you don’t have to rap about having money and cars to get someone’s attention. In Kanye West’s Homecoming, he said, “Reach for the stars, so if you fall you land on the clouds.” This is an influential quote that encourages the listener to reach for their goals, but if you happen to fail on the way it’ll be ok because you have a comfort system to be there for you.
What is wisdom? The simple definition I found is the knowledge that is gained by having many experiences in life, the natural ability to understand things that most other people cannot understand, and the knowledge of what is proper or reasonable: good sense or judgment. My answer to this question isn’t a matter of what is but who is. I believe that Socrates will be one of if not the wisest in history not because of what he did and did not do but of who is was. Are you able to allow truth to possess you rather then believing that it is your possession?
Hip Hop produced similar idols and ambassadors through the years and decades. Kendrick Lamar is one of the most influential MC in the United States. His lyrics containing strong statements about the situation of African-Americans in the present-day society where the black community still have to face issues of racism and police brutality. Kendrick is a similar character to Martin Luther King considering his commitment towards his community and culture, his voice has a strong influence on black people. Sometimes when social injustice and racial issues drench the society, music is one of the best way to demonstrate against these problems.
