Kids”- A poignant and eye-opening depiction of teenage life
Screenplay by Harmony Koraine and directed by Larry Clark, “Kids” is an American independent movie released in the year 1995. The film has Leo Fitzpatrick, Chloe Sevigny, Justin Pierce, and Rosario Dawson in the lead characters. Ellen De Generes once quoted, “Being a teenager and figuring out who you are is hard enough without someone attacking you”. This film explains the quote in its most realist terms. It is truly a harrowing and insightful depiction of the life of a group of anxious teenagers residing in the New York City. It does not have a particular story plot but is definitely a good movie to watch even without it.

Not only is this movie a realistic depiction of the nation’s youth, but also a social alarm against HIV. It is not fiction, but honesty in its most brutal and raw form. One can find the truth of the youth of today. Drugs, alcohol and vulgarities have become regular things for them. Kids are not as they used to be earlier, they are immature adults growing up in an era which is more prone to opportunities and distractions.
“Kids” is not just a film, it is a message to the world to protect the lives of its future generations. At first it might seem a bit disturbing but the movie hardly has that intention. All that the movie demands is that the unseen and uncared kids should get some attention, love and concern. That is all that is needed to save their tomorrow.
Eric Edwards did a good job on screen with his cinematographic skills and Christopher Tellefsen added to the essence with his great editing. The background score was created by Lou Barlow. His theme for different characters in the movie is worth recognition. Every track fit the movie very
