It is with great enthusiasm that I write to apply for the Pro Bono Coordinating Attorney position at Kids in Need of Defense (KIND). After recently completing a public interest law fellowship, I’m striving to continue my dedication to public service, specifically my commitment to helping some of the most vulnerable people in our society, undocumented immigrants. Teresa Gutierrez recently spoke to me about your expanded efforts to help unaccompanied immigrant and refugee children. Together we strategized overcoming challenges and met with USCIS officials to ensure accountability of the system. In addition to immigration representation, I also prepared my clients to represent themselves for family law matters. It was fulfilling to see my clients fight for themselves after I had informed them of their rights and coached them to speak up for themselves.
