ver heard of the term KKK, and wondered what is represented ? The Klu Klux Klan (also known as the KKK) is a “white supremacist organization.” This organization was founded in 1866 by Confederate Veterans . The first known leader was Nathan Bedford and members of the group would often refer to him as a “grand wizard.”(“Klu-Klux-Klan”) The name of this klan was created using the greek word “kyklos” , meaning circle. Members would claim themselves as “Knights of the Klu Klux Klan.” (“Actual_Application_of-the_Klu-Klux_Klan”). This group consisted of white , christian men ,no other race or religion was accepted.Women were also allowed to join the Klan but they had to be native-white and protestant. In 1920 over 4 million members had been associated with the KKK.This year had been their strongest and highest amount of members ever. Although the klan was not an open member group , a phase had occurred during this time period in which the group toned down its racism to draw in hundreds of young men , who were not racist, to join the klan not knowing what exactly they were about. The KKK represents many things depending on the person , some believe it represents worship , racism , good actions and also bad actions. There are many different beliefs behind this topic. The KKK and the novel ,”To Kill A Mockingbird” have very similar connections to each other . In the story TKAM , it is taking place in a very racist time in history. Not all but many white americans were racist against black african americans. People did not believe that black people had deserved certain rights. If you were black during this time period, they went against you and believed you were a bad person,without even knowing your personal information. For example in the story , Tom Robinson (an african american) was accused of raping a young girl who was white . During the court case there was plenty of proof that Robinson was not guilty and had done nothing wrong but at the end of the case he was accused of being guilty. They accused him of being guilty because the judge and the jury were white and racist just like half of the people who attended the court case.The Klu Klux Klan did not believe that african americans deserved the civil rights they wanted and were fighting very hard to receive . This group actually fought against them , making sure they did not receive these rights. In both the book and this group you can come to the conclusion that
