One of Belk Inc. top competitors is Kohl’s, one of America’s biggest department store retail chains. The company currently has more than 1162 retail stores across 49 states, along with the powerful e-commerce platform of Kohls.com. (Tracey Mitchell). Kohl’s has a similar customer profile compared to Belk Inc., they target middle class women between ages 25-54 with an annual household income between $50,000 to $74,900. (R., 2014). These women are typically married and have kids, who shop for their families and enjoy deals and rewards. Of these classifications the ones that would have the great depth would be tops such as tees, t-shirts, blouses, as well as jeans These categories carry multiple different types of styles and from different brands through the women’s department. The classifications that get the most prominent locations are tops and jeans. There are many mannequins that dare seen wearing different tops such as tee, t-shirts, blouses as well as sweaters. These are the first categories that customers see when they walk into the women’s department due to the front placement of the merchandise. For SONOMA Goods for Life the colors were very neutral with some dark colors added such as black and purple. Apt. 9 colors were dark colors for jeans such as black and dark navy blue, as well as for lost of their tops that the mannequins were wearing. You can see the color similarities amongst the brands and how they are consisted through the department. It’s been mostly winter colors and some flower bright colors started to appear, like for Apt. 9 and Simply Vera Vera Wang probably for the upcoming spring season. Almost all categories had some kind of trend going one that was the current buzz. There were a lot of sweaters and sweater shirts in many different colors mostly all solids. Leather jackets and coats with faux fur were a hot trend for the season as well. As for pricing between both branded merchandise and private label, it was pretty much around the same cost and would be considered moderate pricing. Kohl’s focus one value cost, so they have completive low price to compete with competitors. Using promotions and coupons such as kohl’s cash and reward points, is another tactic Kohl’s uses to bring in traffic and have low prices for both private and branded
