In 2016 I was hired as an Educational Apprentice at the Lake Dillon Theatre Company in Dillon, Colorado and I spent my summer working with local children. This small regional theatre gave me more than just credits towards my program required internship, it allowed me to travel west and fulfil an internal manifest destiny that had been growing inside of me. A huge factor in my decision to attend Russell Sage was that I would receive an education that taught using hands on experience. Like Sage, The Lake Dillon Theatre Company offered me the chance to learn from practical experience by hiring me to direct two of their Summer Youth Theatre Workshop’s musicals. Colorado awakened something inside of me that not only loves to travel, but needs to travel. I yearn to meet new people, see new places, and experience other cultures. That’s how I believe a person can get the most out of travel, by not only experiencing the obvious events and touristy locations, but by meeting the local people and making an effort to learn about their culture. As much as I enjoy traveling inside the United States the culture shock is never as electric as when you travel outside the border. Across our nation you see differences in sub-cultures, but nationwide our pop culture is homologous. Anywhere you go you hear the same music, the same language, and the same media. I want to travel to countries with different languages, even if it’s just for one night. It is very easy to travel to other part of Europe from London, as Heathrow is among the largest airports in Europe. During my stay in London I hope to travel to France, Italy, Germany, and Spain and experience the food, theatre, and riches their cultures have to offer. Each country has a national theatre and as an avid theatre lover I hope to see a performance in each of their theatres. Theatre is a phenomenal way to learn about different cultures, the themes playwrights purpose to the stage are usually saturated with cultural meaning in an inclusive way so they can hit the widest possible audience as possible. As a theatre lover, I believe this is my best way to introduce myself to these foreign cultures. To further my cultural exploration of these cultures, I want to visit their countries museums and sample their
