“My heart was troubled about going east, on the God roads.” (178) John was scared for his journey because nobody else was willing to do so and nobody else knew of what was beyond their own little civilization. John went through both a physical and a mental travel when he lets for the city, to find the truth and know the history of his world that his father would not tell
They also had the faith in God that they would get to the Americas safe and even though they suffered difficulties throughout the journey in the sea they managed to make it with the help of God, “...the lord is never wanting unto his in their greatest needs, let his holy name have all the praise.”
They prayed to their God and tried to keep their faith even though it started to become shaky. The men worked everyday and got very little to eat and sleep. They were all tired and starting to become sick. They got beaten and treated like they were nothing. Their faith was breaking and their will to live was
At first, his journey on the surface of the stream went relatively easily, but then “the current grew swifter. Great flakes or islands of foam came swirling down towards me, bruising my shins” (Lewis 45). People often face difficulty when they search for God. However, C.S. Lewis also writes, “I had to scramble to shore. But as the banks hereabouts consisted of great flat stones, I continued my journey without much hurt to my feet.”
They struggled to find shelter, and food. Those were only some of the hardships that made them wiser, and more intelligent than when they first came to the new land. Long and painful, these experiences were something memorable
Another thing was when they were at the camp, they never lost all faith. At moments some faith would be lost but they always tried to survive not only for their families but for god. The camps were really bad. It was definitely not a fun place to be at.
Even through the hard times, people still had faith in God. They never gave up. They all pushed through it with the help of
Survival is started to feel unlikely. Throughout the story keeping faith alive or conceding was a constant battle due to these harsh conditions. From questioning the existence of God, to questioning the honesty of one another, and questioning whether they will make it to the south alive; the main characters struggle to keep faith alive. Being on the run and continuously having to watch your back from danger all over, results in a sense of weariness and hopelessness. In this story faith and doubt functions to exhibit the power and significance of each.
Worldly Wiseman. As we walked, I would share with Christian about my immense preparations for my journey, including how I participated in strenuous exercise and packed food fit for travel. Even though I had worked tremendously hard on my preparations, I still met with adversity. There were steep hills, pouring rain, and immense disappointment. However, I was resolved not to be defeated and I strove to press on.
This is knowledge which grants eternal happiness and meaning cannot be philosophized by the castaway; it must arrive in the form of news, which is the Absolute Paradox. By faith, this news must be heard and heeded. The Christian faith is neither knowledge nor science nor a “miraculous favor which allows one to… believe the impossible” (146). Faith is a form of communication from God, which is delivered by an apostle whose message, while transcendental and paradoxical, is believable and necessary. Jesus, who comes to bring news across the seas does so with authority and steadfastness to the point of martyrdom.
Good morning brother and sister, we almost at the end of this series... as we continue to write about the Sermon on the Mount... we come to the narrow and wide gates.... Enter by the narrow gate... Jesus did not speak of this gate as our destiny, but as the entrance to a path. There is a right way and a wrong way, and Jesus appealed to His listeners to decide to go the more difficult way, which leads to life...often in life we like to travel the road that others travel...we like to go inside a gate that others has been inside...and can live and talk about it... but Jesus here is telling us to trust Him.. and enter the gate whereas no one wants to go inside... that narrow gate that is hard to get through...
“When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?”. Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this impossible, but with God all things are possible.” ( Holy Bible: New International Version) This verse from chapter 19 of Matthew showed when the disciples questioned how it was possible to get into the kingdom of Heaven. They wondered how a man could give up all of his possessions and give it all to God to be accepted into the Kingdom of Heaven.
The hurricane that portrayed a persisting power also allowed people’s faith in God to strengthen or weaken. When Janie looked outside and everything in town was destroyed and the hurricane continued, their only hope was God. She looked up: “[and her] soul asking if He meant to measure [her] puny might against His. [She] seemed to be staring at the dark, but [her] eyes were watching God” (160). The words “puny might,” and “soul asking” demonstrate the desperation for safety and show the acknowledgment of her powerlessness.
It is the first obstacle in Christian's journey. This swamp is like a test for the amateur pilgrims. If they are carrying a burden of sin and guilt, this miry slough will try to suck down those who lacked courage or gave up the search for salvation as they approach the Savior. Christian's friend, Pliable, is fickle and easily influenced. His desertion in the Slough of Despond was an evidence of this.
“Then Peter answered and said to Him, “See, we have left all and followed You. Therefore what shall we have?” [28] So Jesus said to them, “Assuredly
