15 year old Hannah Spellmen was announced dead on August 14 1909 in Bridgeport. After 5 months of investigating the trial was closed because the only clue that was left was her drawing book but all the pages were blank. Hannah was known for her dark grey eyes. 87 years later it was warm spring and 15 year old Emily Martin found herself in her mom 's room looking for shoes to match her dark grey eyes only to find a musty box. During the eighteenth century and up until the nineteenth century, Greeks were under the control of the Ottoman Empire. It was during this time that nationalism and the idea that your people should have the best became really popular. Greeks in the Balkans and in Asia Minor decided to revolt against their rulers in March 1821, starting a nine-year war in search for their independence. When other European countries siding with them intervened, the Greeks finally gain their freedom. During the war, people formed opinions on the Greeks: some praised and sympathized with them while others didn’t.
Leah, is one half of the set of twins and was almost like the perfect golden child, who was also intelligent. Leah was the one who mostly supported and followed her father, she also brings the tomboy side, with hunting aspects and wanting to hangout and do what the males do. Rachel’s perspective throughout was selfish and privileged. Rachels chapters are filled with complaining and comparisons to her old life in Georgia and when she gets older she is still all about the luxurious lifestyle and puts herself in front of others while throwing out racial slurs. Next, Adah, she was Leah’s twin and the disabled one people overlooked, when in actuality, she was so smart she could read and write backwards.
4. Nanny • Although she is not in the book for long, readers meet Janie’s grandmother, Nanny, early in the novel. Janie has grown up with this lady, after her mom left her at a young age. Nanny wants Janie to marry into wealth, which is why she motivates Janie into marrying Logan Killicks.
She continues to provide vivid imagery using many colors which reflects the speaker's interest towards the visual appeal of the quilt relating it to her. She also expresses imagery through her dreams by saying, “of my father's burnt umber pride” and “my mother's ochre gentleness. ”(Lines 37,40) The colors play an important role because the color symbolizes her family, and those close to the speaker, “yellow brown of Mama’s cheeks...her yellow sisters...grandfather’s white family... my father’s burnt umber pride”(line 17,25,26,39).
Merricat is an eighteen-year-old girl. Everyone in her family except her older sister Constance and her Uncle Julian were killed at dinner by arsenic. Merricat’s narration affects my understanding of the plot, characters, and text by narrating her ideas and feelings throughout the book, We Have Always Lived in the Castle by Shirley Jackson.
