I had been a person that was influential through high school, but never took a leadership role. I did small things among study groups, sports teams, and mentorship opportunities to make an impact on the people around me. I knew coming to Jacksonville, that I could make whatever out of my next four years that I wanted to. Once I got here, I saw how I had certain attributes in order to lead people, while also staying level headed and working with those around me. The first place I found this was when I rushed Delta Chi in the fall of 2016. I was quickly elected associate member class president by my pledge brothers and tried to start making an impact there. I always remained steadfast to my morals and my individual ability to think and act on my own, along with helping my pledge brothers meet the requirements with me to be initiated. After we were initiated into the fraternity we had elections soon after, and I wanted to continue to rise up and guide people. Leaders have to have strengths that are unique to them along with similar traits with other orientation leaders. I have matured immensely since coming to campus and it has helped me personally and socially. I went to a high school where most go to work, trade school, or community college, so I can sympathize and help those who come from atmospheres that don’t encourage degrees, and those that have to adapt to a new environment. I went through the same struggles as many other kids do in high school, my parents divorced when I was entering high school, my mother and I quit communicating, my father didn’t go to college. He went out of his way to help me with stuff that he didn’t always quite understand, he just knew that it would be beneficial to me moving forward. I knew getting here and getting involved would help me find my way even though I didn’t come from a background that involved college especially at an university
