The Three-Skill Approach theory posits leaders at different levels of an organization should have a mix of technical, human, and conceptual skills. Technical skills are required to be competent in areas such as computer software or accounting. Human skills grant a leader the knowledge of how to work with people. He truly wants to be a better leader, but his confidence isn't as high as I believe it should be. I hope this survey helps him understand why he is our leader for this organization, and how to delegate responsibilities in which he may not be as versed.
Jeff's personal skills inventory showed he has a lot of confidence in his ability to hear the needs of others. He is very mission-oriented and at the end of the day, just wants to do the right thing. To Jeff, that means helping people who need it.

Jeff doesn't like to be bothered with complex organizational hoops or legal proceedings, what' right is right, and we don't need laws to do it. This is the area in which Jeff could use support. He needs someone to speak for him so he may do the work he is so good at. In the political and media front, a spokesperson can push issues important to the homeless population in more direct, concise statements. A support team member with increased technical skills can help Jeff run the website and amazon donations page, so he doesn't have to spend quadruple the time trying to figure out the computer. …show more content…

He apprenticed under my partner, Donald, who has owned his tattoo studio business and worked as the feature artist for over twenty years. Daniel is capable of amazing creations on skin, canvas, or clay. He has a vivid imagination and Donald regards his art as “exceptional.”

Daniel lacks social graces and Donald struggles to teach him to form relationships with his clients. Donald knows that a talking client is a happy one, and it is important that an artist be able to communicate clearly with them. Daniel often neglects to use basic manners with clients or other workers, forgetting to say“Please” or“Thank you” no matter how many times it has been modeled before him, even getting our child in on it. He is not a bad person, he just genuinely does not live outside of his head.

Donald tried to model the proper manners for Daniel, hoping he would pick up on the subtleties. After we agreed this method was not working, I approached Donald about changing his own tactics, since Daniel was not responding and the situation was not being resolved. Donald agreed to focus on exhibiting a high-directive, high-support style approach with his mentee to get him to pay attention and respect to those around him, because his income and career depend upon improved social
