NHS Leadership Application Essay According to, John Quincy Adams, the sixth president of the United States, “If your actions inspire others to dream more, learn more, do more and become more, you are a leader.”Leadership is a very influential component in our society for the reason that it paves the path for others to follow. We are exposed to the leaders who shine bright and those who turn out to be a bust on the daily. Furthermore, it has become a very important concept is to establish what makes a good leader and how others and myself can live up to those qualities that so few do at such a young age. Even though some leaders seem to have been born into the role, it takes a positive character and the drive to inspire others to become a great one. Similarly, inspiration is found everywhere. Some are inspired through works or art or through people. I have been inspired by many people throughout high school and I strive to exhibit all of their qualities one day. Take Franklin D. Roosevelt for instance who overcame his diagnosis of polio in 1921 and ended up lowering unemployment by over 20% during the Great Depression. I knew from the beginning that I could walk through the day just like every other Link Leader or I could try and make a lasting impression that could inspire them throughout high school. When the time came, I was able to talk to my group about how important it was to get involved early on. As this was my biggest mistake even though I was able to overcome this roadblock. One girl came up to me at the end and gave me her thanks for the words of encouragement.
