A small goal that I want to achieve in my senior year, is to expand the Beta Club within my cluster. Currently the Beta Club is only available to eighth-graders in my cluster’s middle school and throughout all grades in my high school. My goal is expand the Beta Club to be available to all middle school students from sixth-grade to eighth-grade, which will instill the values of Beta from an earlier age. Evenso, I want to go even farther than this and expand the Beta Club to all of my cluster elementary schools, and allow students as young as eight years old to be able to join an organization that has helped me become the person I am today. In the last year I took on a variety of extracurricular activities in order to confirm my desire to become a physician. I took on a job as a research assistant in a neuroscience lab. This experience showed me how to take the information I had learned from the classroom and apply it to my research. It also taught me that an interest in science alone was not enough for me to achieve my goals or tackle real lab problems, but most importantly it helped me realize that I wanted to do more than just research. My time in the lab taught me that although I enjoyed science, I truly wanted interaction and connection with people and to see the medical application of these scientific techniques.
I always had an interest in learning about different sciences in High School, and knew I wanted to choose a career where I could help people. However, it was not until I was in my senior year, when my father fell sick, I realized my true interest was in medicine and the human body. The doctors would come into his hospital room, explaining what tests they were doing and what medications they were going to give him. My curiosity lead me to research the illnesses he was being tested for; forms of vasculitis. It was not until after numerous different tests and a lung biopsy that my father was diagnosed with the rare form of vasculitis, Churg-Strauss Syndrome.
Most of my family members received their higher education. I respect and love graduate school because of the abundance of innovation and also culture diversity. I appreciate immensely all that school has provided me with. I was assigned a teaching assistant position in different classes in Virginia Tech. Being a TA has been an invaluable experience and I greatly enjoyed the mutual learning process from both students and professors.

This opportunity was given to me by being able to be a teacher's aide in Mrs.Mccabe’s life skills class. This has inspired me as an upcoming teacher and shown me that sewing into the lives of the younger kids can change who they are in the future for the better. Undoing the ongoing stigma society has laid out for these special needs kids is also very important for me and I will be a strong voice for the kids. Also in my time at Ennis High School, I was given the opportunity in one of my electives to be in Mrs.Kovars Ready Set Teach program for 3 years which allowed me to shadow a teacher at any of our available schools in the Ennis school district while also being able to get in-person classroom experience.
