Frank Coffield's opinionated journal article 'Learning styles: time to move on' published in 2013, is supported by some specifically respectable references such as the Office For Standards in Education (OFSTED). However, Coffield's opinion piece (2013) ' is considered as secondary literature' (Majumder 2015) due to 'not containing original research' (Ibid.). Coffield focuses mainly on his views against the Office of Standards for Education (OFSTED) and the concept of learning styles supported by his use of phrases like 'in my view' and also the personal pronoun 'I' to reinforce his opinion directly to the reader. Despite the opinionated tone this article is predominantly educational and it is primarily aimed for head teachers, school governors, OFSTED, trainee teachers, teachers, teacher assistants and other adults involved and interested in education.

For example 'In plumbing.... an apprentice...'. Furthermore, Coffield reinforces an informal chatty tone by using contractions such as 'I'd', beginning sentences with the conjunction 'and' in the first paragraph. What is more, Coffield also engages with the readers by asking rhetorical questions such as ' are synthetic phonics the best way to teach children to read?'. The use of rhetorical questions invites the readers to read more, and also enables the reader to rethink and reevaluate their own decisions and beliefs on learning styles. By using rhetorical questions Coffield raisees awareness to some major issues within education and enables the reader to reflect on their own thoughts and feelings toward this. Moreover, Coffield uses a superlative 'most' and continuously uses triple emphasis such as ' solid, extensive and constantly updated base of knowledge' and 'appropriate, detailed, subject-specific knowledge' to strengthen his argument against learning
