Illegal in many countries, Cannabis, which is also known as Marijuana, is a drug that was intended d for only medical uses. In this essay, I will introduce the pros and cons for the legalisation of Cannabis, and will be taking this issue on a personal, national, and a global level. The legalisation of cannabis is an important subject, as there are currently around 158 million worldwide users. The decision can affect countless of individual’s lives and can also create numerous problems. I will provide evidence for my reasoning and I will also contain sources for my research.

With 6.7% of Cannabis users being only 12-17 years of age, Cannabis is a highly addictive drug. Some causes of the use of this drug include experimentation, to fit in, to relieve boredom, or to seem grown up. However, they all lead to addiction. Effects from the use of this drug include physical symptoms such as dizziness, shallow breathing, paranoia, anxiety, depression, increased appetite, and slowed reaction time.(Gharbia) …show more content…

According to many medical sources, the symptoms stated above are not life threatening. You could make an argument that Cannabis is barely harmful at all. According to a newsletter from the Huffington Post, researchers have found that Cannabis has the lowest risk of mortality and is safer than common drugs such as tobacco and even alcohol. Excessive use can lead to respiratory discomfort, but is not connected to lung damage or cancer. A cannabis user would need to consume 20,000 to 40,000 times more in a normal “joint” to suffer from cannabis overdose.
