Marijuana (or cannabis) is a drug used all over the world and is the most commonly used one, even though it is illegal. It is most frequently used by young and rebellious teenagers. I am going discuss about the benefits and the cons of legalising marijuana, but firstly I will explain what the drug is and how it is used. Cannabis is a dry leaf that is rolled into a cigarettes to create something called a joint. Another way of preparing the drug is by removing some of the tobacco of and existing cigarette and replacing some of it with marijuana, this creates, what is called in the industry, a “blunt”. People could start businesses growing and selling the product all around the country to interested customers, and now a days there are many people looking to buy the drug. Not could it only be profitable to members of the public but also to the government. It was recorded in the U.S that if it was legalised they could save a whopping $13.7 billion a year! This would be because crime rates would be lowered and therefore less injuries and deaths would occur making less patients needing treatment. If more and more people start using the narcotic then there will be a higher amount of people who don”t react well to the drug meaning they will have to go to the hospital. This is bad news for taxpayers as they have to pay for the medicine and the care of the patients. Marijuana is described as being a gateway drug meaning once you have tried it you are likely to want to try other drugs which are worse for you such as cocaine, LSD, heroin, etc which are extremely bad for you not like marijuana. Marijuana is actually said to be one of the safest narcotics and that alcohols, and tobacco are worse for you.
