There are two sides to the topic of legalizing marijuana. Some people say it should be legal everywhere, and some don’t like the idea of it at all. But the idea of this article is to explain why cannabis should be legal in Indiana. Cannabis is now legal in 38 states, which nine of those states, including Washington D.C, have legalized marijuana for recreational uses for the ages of 21 and over. While medical marijuana is legal in 29 other states. Marijuana has many pros to its use. For example; it can improve your mental and physical health, it is less harmful than tobacco, prescription medications, and also alcohol and it also helps the economy. Alcohol has been proven to be a fatal substance. More than 30,000 people have died from an alcohol-induced cause. That doesn’t include the accidents or homicides, which then the number would be closer to 80,000 people who have been injured or died from alcohol. Marijuana has no proven studies of being the cause of someone's death.Tobacco is known to cause lung damage such as respiratory problems and lung cancer. There are about 44 deaths each day due to overdosing on pain pills, and since marijuana has become legal in 38 states, there has been at least a 25% decrease in deaths due to pain pills, and heroin. Prescription painkiller abusers start to build a tolerance towards those pills, which then they turn to illegal options to obtain more, but they are expensive.
