Legalizing Marijuana
Should the U.S. legalize marijuana? Well before you answer, let’s go over some of the facts and issues regarding this controversy. There are many sides to argue for on this issue, and I am going to argue for the legalization of marijuana. Whether you are neutral or against the legalization of marijuana, listening to my perceptive can make you better understand why people argue for it. To me and a lot of people marijuana should be legalized because it is not harmful to the brain, it has medical benefits, it is less harmful than alcohol, and it can save the government money.

This can easily be disproven and there are facts to do so. As mentioned earlier marijuana along with having no negative effect on the brain, it also lowers anxiety. That is only one of the many medical benefits that marijuana can help people with. It is also said that the majority of over-the-counter drugs and some prescription drugs are not as effective as marijuana (Deitch). Doctors know this but without the FDA or the National Institute on Drug Abuse’s approval they can’t give it to their patients. Marijuana is also a safe drug to use because it is physically not possible to die from consuming sufficient marijuana (Deitch). An example of where the legalization of marijuana could have helped someone was with Joe Gamble. Gamble a former soldier in the army at 33 was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (Merino). Gamble would twitch all over, be ill to the stomach, and was taught to walk again three times. Doctors gave him a lot of medications but marijuana was the one that helped with the pain the most. So Gamble has basically forced to break the law and that’s why he like many other people argue for legalizing marijuana. Gamble has said, “I don’t want to be a criminal anymore” (Merino).
