Marijuana, we all know what it is, how it works, and how illegal it is. However, did you guys know that 85,000 people die a year due to alcohol or 480,000 people die due to cigarette? Compared to the use of marijuana, there have never been any recorded deaths due to the use of marijuana. In our country, the war on drugs has been a controversial topic. However, our government needs to come to the reality that the war is loss. Marijuana’s recreational use has increased dramatically over the years. I believe marijuana should be legalized because it can generate revenue for the government, it has great medical benefits, and it is much safer than alcohol and cigerettes. As many of you know Colorado recently legalized marijuana. In the first month of legalization, Colorado generated 2.4 MILLION dollars in tax revenues. An additional 4.3 million was collected in the following month, making a grand total of 6.17 MILLION tax revune on the sale of marijuana. Despite the myths we've heard throughout our lives about marijuana killing brain cells, it turns out that a growing number of studies seem to indicate that marijuana actually has neuroprotective properties. This means that it works to protect brain cells from harm. For example, one recent study by researchers at the University of California San Diego that teens who used marijuana as well as alcohol suffered significantly less damage to the white matter in their brains.
