Persuasive Essay On Legalizing Marijuana

For some time now marijuana (weed) has been considered a

deadly and harmful drug, as well as being known as the “Gateway Drug,”

a drug that leads to you experimenting with other drugs. In a few states

marijuana is legal. But, the big question is should it be entirely legal in

the United States. I think that it should be legal because there are many

benefits and it can help economically.

First, it has been said that marijuana has been an herbal remedy

for centuries. It can reduce anxiety and paranoia. What has also been

said is that it helps people with PTSD. Marijuana has been considered

more helpful than harmful. Also, considered less harmful than alcohol,

Sales in the state have totaled over $996

billion and have raised sales in North America by 30% ($6.7 billion) in

2016. “It is expected to increase $20.1 billion by 2021” says the Arcview

Market Research. If this is an out come of one state legalizing it, then

what would it look like if all states would have it legalized? You would

see a tremendous jump in sales and taxes in the United States. It would

also keep rising because of the popularity and the amount of usage of

the drug. Additionally, weed can be apart of many different business

ideas/ businesses such as: food, medicine, and recreational purposes.

Also because of it’s effects it can raise the sales of fast food among other

things. Furthermore, with the drop in crime rate due to this decision

there will be less money being put into prisons and detention centers.

With all of this extra money coming from that drop we can put in more

money toward schools, fixing up neighborhoods, and helping with other

bigger issues that this country is dealing with. Also many countries have

made marijuana legal or has never made it illegal to begin with and

these countries have lower crime rates and a better commercial out

come due to this drug being
