Weed, grass, dope, pot and cannabis are all names which marijuana is known for. For many years, whether marijuana should be legalized or not has been a tremendous controversy all over the U.S. Like in any dispute, there are those against and those for the legalization of marijuana. Some people believe the legalization of marijuana would benefit many people all over America. Anywhere from younger adults to elders agree on the idea of making marijuana legal. The legalization of marijuana would positively benefit the U.S. by; decreasing crime rate, helping boost the economy and assist individuals medically. The legalization of marijuana would reduce crime rate all over the Unites States. As mentioned in Marijuana Should Be Legalized and Not Just Decriminalized, “In 2012, there were 749,825 marijuana arrests in the U.S.” This was approximately half of the overall drug arrests. Approving marijuana as legal would “create jobs and tax revenue…” (Changing Attitudes and Effects of Legalization, Pg. 2) Of course marijuana would not be allowed for anyone to use. Guideline would have to be followed. As alcoholic beverages and cigarettes are taxed, weed could be treated the same way. Mentioned in Marijuana Taxation and Regulation, in Colorado $5 million were gathered in the sale of weed in just one week. This could mean the sales in a year would be much greater. “Revenue from taxation of marijuana sales could reach up to $8.7 billion per year if taxed like alcohol or tobacco…” (Marijuana Taxation and Regulation, Pg. 3) This would not even include the amount of money saved from the decrease in crimes. The legalization would also create jobs such as employees for the places that would sell the marijuana. There is no doubt the legalization of weed would improve the economy
