Should marijuana be legalized? Many states have been asking themselves this question for many years. There have been thousands of debates over the legalization of marijuana, but it just keeps coming back up.
Marijuana being illegal does not stop people from producing or selling the drug. If someone wants marijuana, they are going to get it whether it’s legal or not. Legalizing marijuana can also reduce the crime rate in America. It would take away the federal law that states marijuana is illegal and there will be less crime. Instead of having many crimes due to drug possession and smuggling, people will be able to simply buy it legally. This would keep more prison space open, and it would save the tax payers money. Alcohol leads to drunk driving, which is the highest cause of death in the U.S., and tobacco leads to cancer and is bad for your teeth. Marijuana on the other hand has proven medical benefits for cancer, AIDS, glaucoma, and other things.
