There are many values of a just society. Though the values differ widely, they all share the same idea, that the protection of freedom must be paramount。 The legalization of marijuana has always been a greatly controversial topic.
Marijuana, or Cannabis, is a psychoactive substance found from the Cannabis plant. Marijuana is used widely, starting from medical use to recreational use.
The conflict started when some states started legalizing them again, starting from Washington state to California, Oregon, and Alaska. The legalization of marijuana is justified for it is supported by the value of utilitarianism and ensures social equality. The legalization of marijuana is supported by the value of utilinitarianism.

According to the NIDA, the effects of marijuana are similar to the effects of tobacco and alcohol, which both are ruled as legal.
The effects of marijuana contains, but are not limited to: relaxation, euphoria, and increased appetite. This is greatly similar to the effects of tobacco, which is used to bring a sense of calmness and contentment to the human brain. However, if marijuana is not legalized in a society where cigarettes and alcohol are legalized, the government will be breaching its duty of neutrality, and the protection of equality.
Sine equality must be preserved to form a just society, the legalization of marijuana is essential in promoting equality in the field of drugs.
Some people might give the social contract as a reason. The opponent’s may argue that people have already given some of their rights to the government, and that the value of utilitarianism cannot be used to support my argument.
