There are many values of a just society. Though the values differ widely, they all share the same idea, that the protection of freedom must be paramount。 The legalization of marijuana has always been a greatly controversial topic.
Marijuana, or Cannabis, is a psychoactive substance found from the Cannabis plant. Marijuana is used widely, starting from medical use to recreational use.
The conflict started when some states started legalizing them again, starting from Washington state to California, Oregon, and Alaska. According to the NIDA, the effects of marijuana are similar to the effects of tobacco and alcohol, which both are ruled as legal.
The effects of marijuana contains, but are not limited to: relaxation, euphoria, and increased appetite. This is greatly similar to the effects of tobacco, which is used to bring a sense of calmness and contentment to the human brain. However, if marijuana is not legalized in a society where cigarettes and alcohol are legalized, the government will be breaching its duty of neutrality, and the protection of equality.
