The legalization of marijuana in Mexico can have positive and negative impacts on our society: impacts ranging from political, ethical and individual. Legalizing marijuana will allow people to have an easier access to it. People who are suffering pain, because of sickness or a terminal illness, can have access to marijuana to relieve some of their pain. Also, if marijuana is legalized the government can regulate it´s production and supply, ending the drug cartels that currently provide it. However, legalizing it can also have negative effects: accidents, such as car accidents, may increase as marijuana lowers the alertness of people, as marijuana´s accessibility increases so does it´s consumption, which can lead to addiction of more harmful drugs, and the side effects marijuana can have on people can damage the body. People use marijuana for medicinal purposes because it alleviates the pain they are suffering. In this particular scenario, marijuana is used to acquire pleasure and avoid pain. According to the hedonistic theory, actions are correct if it allows people to come closer to the ultimate good in life: obtaining pleasure and avoiding pain.
