Should marijuana be legalized? People are going to use marijuana whether it is legal or not; banning it only makes everything more problematic. Why fight to prohibit marijuana, when it could be beneficial for people? Jobs can be created, more money would come to the legalized states, police could focus on serious crimes, and the prison's population would decrease. Instead of police making over seven million marijuana arrests yearly, they could protect the community by finding murderers and rapists. Unlike tobacco, marijuana can be smoked frequently and over a long period of years without damaging the lungs permanently. Marijuana was a success in the early B.C. It was used as an anesthetic during surgery in 4000 B.C. in China. In India, it reduced anxiety in 1000 B.C. For centuries, the United States used it for treatments.
