Why should cannabis be legalized? A better question to ask is “Why shouldn’t it?” Cannabis, typically known as marijuana, is a plant that is prepared to be smoked, ingested or vaporized. This is very appealing to many people in the U.S. because of the high, euphoric feeling that comes after being consumed. Marijuana, although against the law in most of the country, has many overlooked potentials such as, the numerous job opportunities, the use of medicinal marijuana, and the positive effects that would come from the taxing and regulating marijuana. These are key reasons why federal legalization would be undoubtedly beneficial to the people and the country.
If marijuana was to be legalized country-wide in the U.S. opportunities for new jobs would be incredible. As many as 16 types of new jobs could be obtained, which would help the economy by producing a tremendous flow of money from taxes and fees. Jobs involving administration for businesses in the new industry of marijuana are a necessity. Others might say marijuana is a “gateway drug”, but that is not always true. Not everyone who uses marijuana will progress into using something worse. People use marijuana as a stress reliever, or to help with medical issues. If the person is so unstable they believe they need something stronger, that is not because of marijuana. Alcohol and nicotine also prime the brain for a heightened response to other drugs and are, like marijuana, also typically used before a person progresses to other, more harmful substances.
