In 1482, he began doing his first commissioned work by working for wealthy patrons.
Many of Da Vinci’s inventions weren’t actually tested nor built. In his notes he had written out how to operate the device. The first design was called saucer-like gondola. Then he design the ‘helicopter’ which he drawn in 1493. The first ever helicopter wasn’t built until 1940’s.

The Italian Renaissance gave way to the rise of humanism in art, embracing the human spirit conveying messages through expressionism, mainly religious. The Renaissance emerged in the 14th century with such artist as Andrea del Verrocchio who took on Leonardo da Vinci as an apprentice. As an apprentice he prepared paints, and surface areas for Verrocchio, educating him in humanities and a range of technical skills (Adams 292). Art and architecture are visible to the human eye balanced between religion and personal expression. Leonardo da Vinci’s talents such as sketching, proportionality and spatial mechanics, linear perspective and master creator of paintings created some of the most famous paintings known to the modern world (Adams 292).
Besides being in his teacher, Verrocchio’s workshop, he also worked with another artist called Antonio Pollaiuolo. At the young age of 20, in 1472, the painters’ guild of Florence offered him a membership. However, he extended his apprenticeship for five more years. After that when he was 26 years, he began to work independently in Florence. As an independent artist, in around 1482, he painted ‘the Adoration of the Magi’ for San Donato, a Scopeto monastery of Florence, which was his first commissioned work.
In addition to that, there are two of his paintings that are the most famous and well-known of his that are referred to as “The Last Supper,” and the “Mona Lisa”. His extremely well known painting, “The Last Supper” was the first major painting he created. According to www.biography.com/people/leonardo-da-vinci-40396, in 1495, Ludovico Sforza, then the Duke of Milan authorized da Vinci to develop the painting of “The Last Supper” onto the back wall of the dining hall inside the monastery of Milan’s Santa Maria delle Grazie. This painting, which took precisely 3 years to accomplish, exactly shows the moment where Jesus Christ, who gathered the Twelve Apostles for the Passover dinner to share the message that one of the Apostles will soon betray him. Remarkably, the isxe of this painting is surprising sitting at 15 feet one inch wide and 29 feet long.
