The self-portrait created was depicted off of Leonardo Da Vinci’s style. The artwork consists of a drawing of myself with clothing from the medieval times. This piece of artwork medium consists of multiple shades of gray and black including regular and art specialized pencils. The style that was used in this piece is chiaroscuro. This style involves the contrast and use of light and dark elements to create the mood of any given work. Chiaroscuro was used in several of Leonardo’s paintings dating back to the late 1400s. Some of these paintings such as the “Virgin of the Rocks” and, the prominent work renown for centuries, “Mona Lisa” included the use of this style. During his young age, he lived with his father which he then later worked for the Duke of Milan in 1482 for 17 years in producing his unique artworks. At the time he was considered one with many professions. Some of these professions included painter, inventor, engineer, architect, sculptor, geologist, etc. Leonardo was the first to “discover” the art style chiaroscuro during the late 1400s. He started the famous “Mona Lisa” in 1513 and it took him three years to complete, finishing this artwork in the year of 1516. Leonardo passed away on May 2, 1519 due to a stroke. One can easily imply the kid drawn is of a young age as he does not have a beard or any other facial hair grown out. The viewer can also realize that the artist of the self-portrait was focused upon illustration. This can be determined through the mood chiaroscuro creates as well as the facial expression of the person depicted himself.
