Leonardo da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, architect, inventor, military engineer and draftsman. He was born on April 15, 1492, then died on May 2, 1519. He was born in a farmhouse outside the village of Anchiano, modern day Italy. He was born out of wedlock to Ser Piero and a young peasant named Caterina. He was raised by his father and step-mother. At age five he then moved to the town of Vinci and stayed there with his uncle and his grandparents. He received little formal education, which included reading, writing , and math. It was noticeable from a young age that he had a very great art talent. His artworks have greatly influenced other artists around the world. Even though da Vinci is known for his artistic abilities he has only less than 2 dozen paintings attributed to him. Some of his most famous artworks are "The Last Supper" "Mona Lisa" and "Vitruvian Man". His "Vitruvian Man" was drawn in 1490 where he depicted a male figure. This drawing represents Leonardo's knowledge of proportions and his desire to relate a man to nature. His Painting "The Last Supper" , which was finished around 1495, captures the moment when Jesus tells the Twelve Disciples that one of them is going to soon betray him. Da Vinci painted this masterpiece with tempera and oil, which led to quick deterioration and flaking of "The Last Supper". Then in 1503, He painted his most well known painting, and arguably the most famous painting in the world, "Mona Lisa".
