In 1988, Columbia Pictures produced a movie called Les Miserables, which is based after the novel Les Miserables written by Victor Hugo. The movie is about an unusual relationship between an ex-convict named Val Jean and an inspector named Javert. In the beginning, it starts out with Valjean being a convict for stealing a piece of bread. While he was in prison, Javert was a guard at the time who watched over Valjean. Javert was a mean and strict person who was determined to follow the rules through his entire life. In that time period there was a lot of poverty and you was either poor or wealthy, no middle class. The poor were normally treated very terribly and for a simple act of disobedience in today’s culture would be years in prison or maybe even life. The movie portrays how a life of a criminal can change into a strong, independent man just trying to live life to the fullness in the life of Valjean. In the beginning, Valjean was a convict. Valjean brought himself and Cosette, daughter of Fantine who was Valjean’s true love, to the safe place of the bishop. There, Valjean and Cosette were able to rebuild their lives once more. Many years later, Valjean was greeted by a familiar face yet again. This time, Javert was able to confirm that Valjean was indeed Valjean. During this madness, a revolution was taking place by the Republicans toward the ruler of that time period. Valjean was able to escape Javert one more time and when he escaped, Javert was captured by a Republican. They were going to kill Javert once they received more bullets but Valjean had a different idea. He drug Javert outside in an alley to where nobody was able to see them. Instead of killing him on the spot, Valjean cut off the rope that had Javert tied up and let Javert leave through the other way so nobody was able to see he let him
