I grew up in a port city of Bangladesh, Chittagong. It was such a city where I have got the best chance to witness how disturbed the transportation sector of a country can be. I saw, there were hundreds of potholes and cracks, everywhere in the pavement. The situation further gets worse during the rainy season. I still remember one rainy reason the local people sowed rice seedling in the pavement as it became like a plowed field. Moreover, as a port city, heavy vehicles make the transition through the city.

In fourth year I took courses like Pavement Design and Railway Engineering, Pavement Management, Drainage and Airport, Traffic Engineering Design and Management. These were the decisive moment in my undergrad career. I was able to correlate those courses with the real time transportation problems of my country. I was extremely excited and started to study and work harder in transportation engineering. The consequence was more amazing, an average of 3.7 GPA in the transportation courses that I have taken with an ebullient passion for this subject. I started working as a Lecturer in DIU (Dhaka International University), one of the most reputed universities in Dhaka. To my consideration, this is the best profession for me to continue my research works. Now, I have the chance to explore and study the topics more of my passion. Most importantly, now I can share my knowledge with my students, from whom I get the inspiration of studying and researching more. And, of course, I have got one more noble chance, encouraging more women from my country to study in Civil Engineering.
A postgraduate with a focus in Pavements and Materials can help me research in solving the most critical transportation problems of my home country, Bangladesh. After the completion of the postgraduate study move into a purely teaching and research capacity.
Auburn University will be a solid platform for me. It has fantastic facilities, great faculties, and research labs at the Civil Engineering Department. The cutting edge research facilities inspired me to apply for graduate studies here. I was very intrigued by the works by. Dr. David Timm on Highway materials and Pavement Engineering.
