July 1945, Dear President Truman, I am writing to you to offer you my suggestion on what I believe you should do regarding the bombs. I have thought long and hard about this and I believe you should use the bombs to end the war with Japan as the end outcome will be much more constructive than harmful. My reasons for this are: 1. In the end it’s about stopping the war promptly. We both know that dropping bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki will pressure Japan into surrender, which practically means the end of the war. It will make America look superior and strong to the world, this is because the use of atomic bombs will scare all other countries and they will know our Nation will do whatever we need to do to save our country and our people. This is crucial as we want people to know the American Nation is strong and will fight for the lives of their people. We are a nation that is united and undivided and we stand together. We do not want to be known as a weak nation that can be defeated, other countries cannot just walk all over us. There is strength in unity. 3. It is a quick and easy resolution that will leave a huge impact. We cannot waste time thinking and planning for option number 2. Even if we test out the bombs, what if they work and we have just lost our only effective attack and these bombs take a long time to rebuild. How do we know while we are rebuilding, Japan hasn’t heard of our plans? If they invade us while our bombs are under construction American civilians and soldiers will die. Wasting time kills people, we must strike first! 4. Japan is planning on building an atomic bomb or invading us, we cannot let this happen. If they build an atomic bomb it will not only affect us but our allies also, if they bomb any of us it just makes this war last longer. Dropping our atomic bombs insures not only our protection but the protection of our allies and also shows our consideration for what happened to Pearl
