Abraham Lincoln was, without a doubt, one of the most influential leaders in American history. Abraham Lincoln's work to ensure equality for all Americans suggests he is a true American servant leader. Servant leadership dates back thousands of years into the times Jesus Christ walked on the Earth. He was the first servant leader, and many have followed his teaching throughout history.

Servant leadership involves a leader being concerned with the well-being and personal development of followers. As previously mentioned, Lincoln was often seen on the battlefield speaking with military leaders, learning of their needs and concerns, and learning how he could best support and help them. This is truly what a servant leader must do each and every day to have successful organizations. A successful organization led by a true servant leader takes a person who is constantly out of his or her office, talking to people and finding out what they need and what can be done to provide them with the support they
