What is perseverance? Perseverance is the act of achieving your goals even though you face many obstacles before accomplishing them. I believe Lisa R. Ramirez had a lot of perseverance. Which was an important factor in achieving her goals. Dr. Ramirez is currently assigned to the United States Department of Education as the national director of the Office of Migrant Education in Washington, D.C. She received her doctorate in Educational Leadership, her presentations have been made nationwide to a variety of different audiences. Her journey into this career was not easy, and in her book Dulcified she talks about all the hardships she had to overcome in order to get to where she is now. Ramirez shows strength throughout the book, she explains with detail what her family was like and how each one of them played an important part of her life, how continuing an education after all she went through was possible. My responsibilities in life for the time being is to focus on school, I also have to begin to be financially responsible, I want to stop depending on my parents because I know that there is only so much that they can do to help me financially. I have control of these responsibilities if I manage my time correctly I can continue to keep good grades as well as find time for a part time job. Dr. Ramirez constantly asks the question of what we have control over, this is because we ourselves have control over the decisions we make. We will never know what obstacles we will have to face, but we can control how we are going to overcome those obstacles. Lisa R. Ramirez wants us to realize that we should take advantage of the few things we are able to control.
For example if I decide to drop out of college I can expect to live my life the same way for the rest of my life. I would have to stick to a job afraid that if I lose that job I might not be qualified enough to get another job. Now a days a college degree is essential for any job, so a high school diploma can only get me so far. If I decide to stay in college I will have the opportunity to work doing something that I like to do and not a minimum wage paying job in the fast food industry.
