Ever heard the phrase, “humans work better under pressure”? It varies for everyone, but regardless, one who can push through a tough time and come out on top, will have had perseverance. According to Merriam-Webster Dictionary, the definition of perseverance is, “continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.” (“Perseverance”). Someone who perseveres is one who does everything in their power to complete a task despite adversity or pressure from friends, society, or time. Synonymous with determination or persistent, perseverance can also be associated with someone's journey to find success or place amongst peers.

Steven Spielberg is a major icon in the film industry and is responsible for directing and producing major productions like Jaws, Star Wars, and Jurassic Park. In his youth, Spielberg was isolated from movies and television shows by his parents. But that didn’t stop his desire to become a filmmaker at as a child after seeing a motion picture. Following his family’s move to San Francisco, Spielberg began sneaking around movie sets at Universal Studios and creating many films of his own. Though his family never seriously encouraged it and he never got the best equipment, Spielberg kept making films and doing what he loved. “‘I've always made the kinds of films that I, as an audience, would want to see,’ Spielberg told American Film. ‘That's my main philosophy.’” (“Steven Spielberg”) His lack of resources never prohibited his desire to keep on creating, leads me to believe that this demonstrates the characteristic of perseverance quite
