“I have put thirty-two kids through college.” A staggering figure that intrigues any person who would hear such a statement. My grandma, Sandy Emery, is a very well respected individual who strives to be courteous and sincere to anyone she may meet. When asking her about something that no one knows about her, she responded with the above. Education has been an important aspect of her life for many years, and the ability to exert that passion on others is one of her main goals in life. Every day she wakes up ready to take on the world one step at a time and has a positive attitude throughout. Based upon these ideals, my grandma is a phenomenal choice. With her relationship with my grandpa, Frank, her career as an educator, and her happiness in life today, she embodies everything I hope to have in a life myself. Over the past couple of years, she has begun to share secrets and stories about teaching with me, as I hope to be an educator one day myself. From how to discipline to what colors work best in the classroom, she has taken her knowledge over the years and gave it to me, something I will forever be thankful of. Throughout the next chapter of my life, I hope to graduate college, to begin working at a school, and to feel content with my life choices--something my grandma has taught me to do. She constantly reminds me that happiness is the key to an enjoyable life and that along with love, nothing else matters. While I know a career choice is a decision for one to make alone, I believe her influence on me throughout my lifetime has definitely played a role. From her teaching me the basics of reading before kindergarten to going on college tours with me as a senior, her grandmotherly instincts have no doubt influenced my future plans. The bond I share with grandma is one I will cherish forever, and the relationships we share as family now and co-educators in the future are ones I will forever be grateful
